HOW TO CLEAN AN INDUCTION COOKTOP OR RANGE
You’ve just finished cooking an impressive meal on multiple burners on your induction cooktop and loaded the dishwasher. The job is nearly done but before you relax, you need to turn your attention to cleaning your ceramic glass stovetop to make sure stuck-on residue and spills don’t dry and harden.
Induction cooktops employ electromagnetic energy to send heat to compatible cookware, meaning the cooktop surface cools off quickly and is relatively easy to clean.
If some splatter occurs while making a homemade Bolognese sauce, the quick cooling ability of an induction cooktop surface lowers the chances of messes becoming charred or burnt-on. However, you may still encounter hard water stains and white marks.
Regardless of the mess, follow the instructions below to efficiently clean your induction cooktop.
Alternatively, review this article for cleaning a self-cleaning oven if you have this type of cooking appliance rather than an induction cooktop.
Start by gathering the following supplies and tools:
SUPPLIES
- A cooktop cleaning solution or baking soda and vinegar
TOOLS
A cooktop scrubbing pad
A cooktop scraper
An oven mitt
A cooktop cleaning wipes, soft cloth, sponge or non-abrasive pad
To achieve the best results, always clean your ceramic glass cooktop right after using it and once it has cooled down. This is a quick process, taking about two to five minutes, and you’ll only need a cleaning solution and a damp cloth.
It’s sometimes necessary to perform a deeper cleaning on your induction cooktop. To do so, you’ll need a cleaning kit, a non-abrasive pad and a scraper. Using these materials effectively should result in a clean cooktop in less than 30 minutes.
To safely clean your cooktop and avoid scratches, always consult your owner’s manual and follow the instructions on all cleaning products before using them.
If you’re looking for the most comprehensive approach use affresh® glass and ceramic cooktop cleaners.
STEP 1: SCRAPE THE SURFACE OF THE COOKTOP
To get rid of burnt-on residue or grease, let the cooktop cool until it’s warm to the touch. Then, position the scraper as flat as possible to loosen the residue without potentially scratching the surface. You should repeat this process until all residue and grease have been removed.
Please note that even though induction cooktops do not radiate heat through the surface, hot cookware on top may still transfer heat. Due to this, it’s recommended to let the cooktop cool after removing the cookware and turning it off.
STEP 2: APPLY A CLEANING SOLUTION TO THE COOKTOP SURFACE
After the cooktop has cooled, apply a cleaning solution or diluted vinegar mix to the surface. The solution needs to sit for 10 to 15 minutes before wiping the surface with a cleaning pad or soft cloth.
STEP 3: USE AFFRESH® GLASS AND CERAMIC CLEANER
Apply a dime-sized drop of affresh® glass and ceramic cooktop cleaner to particularly tough or stuck-on messes. With a non-abrasive scrubbing pad, rub the targeted areas until the residue has loosened. Give the cleaning solution time to become a hazy white film and then proceed to the next step.
STEP 4: POLISH THE SURFACE
Take a dry cloth and carefully wipe and polish the surface of the cooktop. Don’t stop until the white film is completely gone.
STEP 5: REPEAT UNTIL YOUR COOKTOP SURFACE IS CLEAN
Sometimes stubborn messes require multiple cleanings. When this happens, just repeat steps 1-4 until your cooktop surface is fully cleaned.
Step 1: Scrape the cooktop surface
Step 2: Apply a diluted vinegar solution or cleaner to your cooktop surface and then wipe it clean
Step 3: Apply affresh® glass and ceramic cooktop cleaner to the surface
Step 4: Polish the cooktop
TIPS TO PERFORM DAILY MAINTENANCE FOR AN INDUCTION HOB
Ideally, you clean your induction hob right after you’ve cooked with it. A daily maintenance routine helps ensure that the ceramic glass stovetop remains smooth and clean.
If you’re only dealing with light or moderate messes, you can wait until the cooktop has cooled and then use a damp sponge or cleanser to clean the surface. For heavy soil or more challenging residue, you should use a non-abrasive cleanser and scraper.
REMOVING WHITE HARD WATER STAINS FROM AN INDUCTION COOKTOP
Vinegar is the best bet to remove hard water stains or white splotches from a cooktop.
Start by moistening a dry cloth with a white vinegar mix and then rub it into the stains. Let the vinegar sit for several minutes before cleaning the stains. The last step is to rinse with a new clean cloth and distilled water or a cooktop cleaning solution
CLEANING TOOLS AND CHEMICALS TO NEVER USE ON AN INDUCTION COOKTOP
To help avoid damaging an induction cooktop, never use the following products:
Steel wool
Chlorine bleach
Abrasive powder cleansers
Rust removers
Ammonia
Ferrous scrubbing brushes (brushes with steel bristles)
Always review your owner’s manual and the instructions on cleaning products before using them on your cooktop.
