It's rare to find a dish as versatile and simple to prepare as soup. Soups are in season all year, and your blender is crucial to creating a range of unique recipes. HOW TO MAKE SOUP IN A BLENDER
The process of making a blender soup is as simple as cooking your vegetables, like potatoes, carrots, broccoli, or tomatoes, with aromatics of your choice, followed by pureeing them with a liquid base like milk (or substitute).
Immersion blenders, such as the KitchenAid® Variable Speed Blender simplify cooking so you can blend your ingredients directly in the pot, while the Commercial Blender with 3.5 peak HP Motor* speeds up the soup-making process with room temperature ingredients.
You can follow the tips below to make soup in a blender. Follow these basic steps and feel free to use the ingredients of your choice to unleash your creativity.
*Motor horsepower for our commercial blender motors were measured using a dynamometer, a machine laboratories routinely use to measure the mechanical power of motors. Our 3.5-horsepower (HP) motor reference reflects the horsepower rating of the motor itself and not the commercial blender's horsepower output to the blending vessel. The output horsepower to the blending vessel will be somewhat reduced.
Immersion Blender Soup Tutorial
In addition to emulsifying and pureeing soups right in the pot, an immersion blender has many other uses. Immersion blender recipes can be adapted to work with just about any countertop blender. All you have to do is blend your ingredients right inside the pot or container you use to cook your food. To prevent splatters, be sure to fully submerge the blades in the pot.
INGREDIENTS
- Broth (vegetable or the broth of your choice)
- Thawed veggies like frozen peas or broccoli
- Medium green onion
- Salt to taste
- Fresh ground pepper
- Medium avocado
- Herbs like mint leaves, firmly packed
- Lemon juice
STEP 1: BLEND TOUGHER INGREDIENTS AND A LIQUID BASE
The broth (which should be warm, but not boiling hot) should be added to your blender's jar along with any ingredients you plan to add to your soup, like the thawed peas, green onion, salt, pepper, and avocado. Blend slowly at first, increasing the speed gradually. Continue blending for about 5 minutes. Generally, you should blend your sturdier ingredients first, then your more delicate herbs, and then the liquid base.
As an alternative, you can add the ingredients to the pot used to make the vegetable broth if you're working with an immersion blender. Blend until you reach your desired consistency, ensuring that the blades are fully submerged before turning on the blender.
STEP 2: COMBINE HERBS AND ALL OTHER INGREDIENTS
Combine the lemon juice and mint with the mixture once it appears well-combined. Then pulse for 10 to 20 seconds until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
STEP 3: DINE AND ENJOY
The soup should come out hot. It can also be heated up on the stove until your desired temperature is reached if you do not have a Commercial Blender with 3.5 peak HP Motor*. Add any garnishes you wish, such as sour cream, plain yogurt, and fresh mint to the soup. You're done!

BLENDING SOUP: FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Below are answers to the most frequently asked questions about making soup in a blender.
CAN ANY BLENDER BE USED TO MAKE SOUP?
You should use a blender jar that can withstand heat because you'll be working with hot ingredients. Make sure it's glass, double-walled, or made of a strong plastic. When blending hot food, vented jar lids, such as those found on some KitchenAid® blenders, help steam escape. A blender with pre-programmed soup settings like the KitchenAid® K400 Blender, can also help you know when everything is mixed togethe
IS IT SAFE TO BLEND HOT VEGETABLES?
When your vegetables are done cooking, they should not be blended immediately. Make sure to let vegetables cool down before adding to the jar and blending in small batches, removing the measuring cap if your lid is not vented to allow for steam to escape.
DOES ANY BLENDER MAKE HOT SOUP?
Hot soup can be made in some blenders with varying degrees of ease. While some blenders require heating the liquid base separately before blending, others, like the Commercial Blender with 3.5 peak HP Motor* can heat soup as you blend while keeping the outer jar cool. If you're unsure whether your blender jar is heat-resistant, consult your owner's manual.

Our 3.5-horsepower (HP) motor reference reflects the horsepower rating of the motor itself and not the commercial blender's horsepower output to the blending vessel. CAN A PLASTIC BLENDER BLEND HOT SOUP?
If the owner's manual for your blender specifies that the jar is made of plastic that will not melt when heated, then you should be able to blend hot soup.
HOW DO YOU MAKE SOUP SMOOTH?
Smooth soup is created by using soft, but not mushy, vegetables. A silkier texture can also be achieved by streaming oil or cream into the soup.
Your soup's consistency can also be affected by the blender's features. KitchenAid® High Performance Series Blenders, for example, blend ingredients quickly and efficiently with a range of 9 speeds. Using the K400 Blender's preset recipe programs, you can create the texture you desire, from chunky to smooth.
CAN YOU MAKE SOUP WITHOUT A BLENDER?
In case you don't have a blender, chances are you own another kitchen appliance that can be used to make soup.
Large-capacity food processor
You can also pureé ingredients in a large-capacity food processor. In order to get the best results, add items such as kale or carrots to your work bowl first, though keep in mind that your soup will have a chunkier texture rather than the smoothness a blender provides
Stand mixer
Making chunkier soups is also possible using a KitchenAid® stand mixer. To create a rustic-style soup, use a flat or pastry beater to mash or shred potatoes or chicken, or you can make prepping easier with KitchenAid® slicing or dicing attachments that can be used with your stand mixer for uniform results.
