STEP BY STEP GUIDE: HOW TO CLEAN A FOOD PROCESSOR
Immediately cleaning your food processor after each use can help maintain the appliance and its parts. This dedication to its care helps ensure that your food processor will always be ready for when you need it.
Follow these food processor cleaning tips to properly clean and store it after each use.
SUPPLIES
Dish soap
Dishwasher (optional)
TOOLS
Dry cloth
Damp cloth for cleaning
Small cleaning brush, if needed
STEP 1: DISCONNECT AND DISASSEMBLE
First, unplug your food processor and then remove the lid, blade, and bowl. For certain models, the bowl unlocks by rotating it and then separating it from the base of the appliance.
Select KitchenAid® Food Processors feature a no-twist lid and bowl for easy assembly.
STEP 2: CLEAN THE BASE AND CORD
With a warm, damp cloth, wipe the base and cord of the food processor clean. Once you’re satisfied that it’s clean, use a soft cloth to dry it, making sure you do a thorough job.
To protect your food processor against damage, you should never use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads. Furthermore, never immerse the base of the food processor or the power cord in water or any type of liquid.
STEP 3: CLEAN THE PARTS: THE BLADES, BOWL AND LID
To wash your food processor’s parts by hand, use warm soapy water and a soft cloth or sponge. You should never use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads as they may scratch or cloud the work bowl and cover.
To efficiently clean the inside of a food processor and its blades, add the following into the bowl:
Water until it’s about ⅓ full
A few drops of dishwashing liquid
Next, run the food processor on high for 30 seconds. If parts of your food processor are dishwasher-safe, then you can place these pieces on the top rack and wash using either a gentle or normal wash cycle with dishwasher detergent.
Always consult the owner's manual for your food processor for specific cleaning directions.
STEP 4: DRY AND STORE
Gently dry the lid, bowl and blades of your food processor the same way as you would do for the base and cord— with a soft, clean cloth. Confirm that each food processor part is completely dry before storing the appliance.
Once the food processor is dry, reassemble it, and then store it somewhere safe. If you store your food processor on a pantry shelf or in a cabinet, you should first wrap the cord around the cord storage, usually found on the bottom of the base. Not all models have this feature. If your appliance doesn’t, you can simply wrap the cord around the base.
Certain models, including the KitchenAid® 9-Cup Food Processor, are designed for the work bowl to also act as a storage space for the blades, drive adapter, and discs.

ARE FOOD PROCESSOR PARTS DISHWASHER-SAFE?
Many food processors have parts (lid, bowl, and blades) that can be safely washed on the top rack of a dishwasher. Before attempting to wash any food processor parts in your dishwasher, consult the product-specific cleaning information in the owner’s manual for your food processor.
If the lid, blade, and bowl of your KitchenAid® Food Processor are dishwasher-safe, you should only place them on the top rack.
Here are more tips to help you clean your food processor parts in a dishwasher:
Make sure the bowl is loaded upside down
Use only a gentle or normal dishwashing cycle
Avoid cycles with high temperatures
HOW TO CLEAN THE INTERIOR OF A FOOD PROCESSOR BLADE
Sometimes food particles can find their way inside the food processor blade. To clean this hard-to-reach area, use a small cleaning brush, warm water, and, if needed, a drop or two of cleaning solution. Don’t forget to clean any crevices on the handle or locking mechanism.
AN EASY WAY TO CLEAN THE STAINS ON YOUR FOOD PROCESSOR
If you encounter a tough stain or encrusted food on your food processor use a soft, damp cloth and a strong cleaning solution, like vinegar. Vinegar can help sanitise the exterior of the appliance and remove stains that were undeterred by dish soap.
Always avoid using abrasive cleaners or scouring pads as these may damage the surface of parts. Before storing your food processor, ensure that all parts have been rinsed and are completely dry.
To learn more about how to properly care for your food processor, refer to your owner’s manual for product-specific information. Once your food processor is all clean, it’s ready to bring your favourite recipes to life.
