Wall Oven Sizes & Measurement Guide

A wall oven can be the perfect solution to upgrading an older oven, remodelling a kitchen, or just adding additional baking and roasting capability to your kitchen. 

When choosing a wall oven, it is important to consider the size of your kitchen to ensure a proper fit. 

As a way to help you choose a wall oven that is the right size for your family, this guide will look at common types of wall ovens and their corresponding sizes and dimensions, as well as how to properly measure.

In general, wall ovens range from 24 inches to 27 inches to 30 inches in width, although this is only an approximate measurement that varies slightly from model to model. For example, an oven may measure 30 inches wide, though it may in fact be 29¾ inches. 

It is also important to consider the various types of installation options, such as:

Proud 
A unit installed in a standard application will sit proud or sit forward of the surrounding cabinetry.

Flush
In a flush inset installation, the front of the unit sits flush or on the same plane as the surrounding cabinetry.

When determining the cabinet cutout, you will need to consider whether your appliances will be mounted proud or flush. Some appliances cannot be installed flush. If your appliances can be installed flush, you will need a larger cutout than if you intend to mount them proud. However, you should always consult the installation guide provided by the manufacturer.

For most installations, determining the opening size or cutout required is most important. Single wall ovens, double wall ovens, or combination wall ovens and microwaves with varying capacities and dimensions are available.

The following are some common oven cutout dimensions:

Single Wall Oven Cutout Dimensions

You can use the following dimensions to get an idea of what you might find in your kitchen. However, it is important to check the manufacturer's recommended cutout dimensions before buying a model.

Please note: the following dimensions give a general idea of the range of wall oven sizes. They do not necessarily reflect all wall ovens available on the market today.

30-inch wall ovens:

• Cutout Height: 27¼ - 28 inches tall
• Cutout Width: 28½ - 28⅝ inches wide
• Cutout Depth, excluding door frames and handles:  23½ - 24 inches deep

27-inch wall ovens:

• Cutout Height: 27⅝ - 28 inches tall 
• Cutout Width: 25¼ - 25½ inches wide
• Cutout Depth, excluding door frames and handles: 23½ - 24 inches deep

24-inch wall ovens:

• Cutout Height: 23 7/16- 23 3/4  inches tall
• Cutout Width: 22 15/16 - 23 3/4 inches wide
• Cutout Depth, excluding door frames and handles: 21 9/16- 22 ⅜  inches deep

Double Wall Oven Cutout Dimensions

For double wall oven installation, the general widths and depths will remain the same as single wall ovens. However, there may be some variation in the height they need. For double wall ovens, these are typical cutout dimensions:

30-inch models:

• Cutout Height: 50¼ - 51 13/16 inches tall

27-inch models:

• Cutout Height: 50¼ inches tall

Combination Wall Oven Cutout Dimensions

Generally, the width and depth requirements for combination wall ovens are the same as for single and double wall ovens. The height will depend on the oven and microwave capacities. The following are common oven combo cutout heights:

30-inch models:

• Cutout Height: 41 5/16 - 43 7/16 inches

27-inch models:

• Cutout Height: 41⅛ - 41 5/16 inches

Is There a Way to Measure My Current Oven Cutout Dimensions?

Step 1: Remove the existing wall oven
To ensure precise measurements, you should take the wall oven out of the cabinet cutout or wall.

Step 2: Measure the cutout width
Measure the width of the cutout from edge to edge with a measuring tape.

Step 3: Measure the cutout depth
To determine the depth of your wall oven cutout, measure from the wall to the front of the cabinet face, excluding the cabinet door. A typical cabinet depth is 24 inches. 

Step 4: Measure the cutout height
Take note of the distance between the top of the cutout opening and the bottom to determine the height of the cutout. This distance will differ greatly between a single wall oven and a double wall oven.

Once you determine the amount of space you have for an oven, there are a number of considerations to make sure you're choosing the right one.

Internal oven capacity

In general, wall oven capacity is related to its dimensions and is measured in cubic feet.

In general, larger ovens have more cooking capacity, while smaller ovens have less cooking space. 

For a single wall oven, there are different capacities available:

• 24-inch wall ovens: May give you around 2-3 cubic feet of cooking space. 
• 27-inch wall ovens:  Generally pack a little more capacity with around 4 cubic feet inside. 
• 30-inch wall ovens: Usually offer capacities between 4.7 - 5.1 cubic feet. Alternatively, you can also find 30-inch models with reduced heights to offer just enough extra cooking space for 1-2 dishes at a time with around 1.7 cubic feet of capacity.

In general, the capacity for each side of a double wall oven is double what is noted above. Generally, the microwave oven capacity is lower than that of a wall oven, and the capacity of a combination oven would fall between the two. See the listed capacity for each width. For instance, a 27-inch double oven may include two 4.3 cubic foot spaces, totalling 8.6 cubic feet.
