I bought my Artisan stand mixer 2 years ago. Using it once in week for bread dough. My first coated dough hook started to chip after short time use. It was replaced by the company as it was still under the warranty. But unfortunately the second hook started to chip as well. I am very much concerned about the food safety issues due to the enamel particles mixed with the dough. Now I have to spend 60$ to purchase stainless steel hook which has scary concerning reviews, people are questioning whether it’s real stainless steel or aluminum. Very disappointed overall of kitchen aid quality for such a high price I paid.

Unsafe
The paint chipped in two different places after only 9 months of use. This is my third dough hook. The KitchenAid Stand Mixer is well designed and has served me well. The attachments are garbage. Make something that will last as long as the mixer and bowel.

The paint chipped off
These coated hook and beater coming along with my 5-Qt. Bowl-Lift stand mixer were poor quality. The paint started peeling off after the machine was used less than ten times within a year.
It is really a serious matter of health hazards. Just imagine while you are mixing your dough, the chipped paint from a white NYLON-coated hook or beater, as Kitchen aid describes on their site, are added your dough without noticing. Only when you clean these tools.
I was disappointed with the poor quality of these coated hook and beater.
The customer service was vary bad too. I called their 1.800 number for two times. Both took me more than ONE hour to connect to a representatives.
In this first contact with Kitchen Aid, the representative did not try to solve this issue. Instead, before all conversation started, they insisted to have my address and phone number to open an account with them. Otherwise, their company would not have any record or anyway to deal with this issues. In other words, if I do not open an account with them, there is nothing they can do.
Also, the representative did not listen to me as a customer who was reporting my experience of using Kitchen Aid’s poor quality parts so they can improve their products. Instead, the representative kept saying that maybe I probably used the hook and beater in a wrong way: Did your hook and beater touch the bottom of the pot. Maybe you cleaned it too hard? No, my answers were: The parts were not touched the pot. They were all hand-washed.
In the mean time, while I am still waiting on a phone line for an hour, the phone has been disconnected. I decided to share my experience here.

Coating started peeling after a few uses
The hook coating started to peel after a few uses only. Very disappointed with the overall quality of the coating. The hook has been hand washed after every use directly yet after using it only for 7 or 8 times we started noticing the coating peeling.

Faulty product
I had my mixer for less than a year when the white coating on this attachment started to flake off. I have always been precisely careful to ensure the attachment doesn't scrape the bottom or edges of the bowl. Product should be stainless steel, in my opinion. Not impressed.
