Rated 5 out of 5 by Michael2 from Love it!!! When had to replace our 10-year old cooktop we looked long and hard at what was available. The first obstacle was the cutout dimensions as we weren't keen on having to replace a bunch of custom countertop. We already have KitchenAid dual ovens, a dishwasher and a fridge — all of which we're really pleased with — and were thrilled when the KCES550 required only minor adjustments to the cutout. I'm the main cook in our household and have found that cooking on it is a dream. The 5th "Keep Warm" burner is so handy — I've used it not only for "keeping warm" but also cooking rice with no sticking to the pan. The large burners are great as they're considerably larger than on our previous cooktop and bring large pasta pots to a quick boil. Despite the amount of heat they're capable of generating they have great temperature control. I did one of my favourite recipes last night which calls for very gently sauteeing very finely chopped carrot, onion & shallot for 15 minutes to caramelize them — with our previous cooktop it was always a challenge to do so without them burning and required constant monitoring and occasionally having to remove the pan from the heat. Not on the KCE550 and I can't wait for COVID to end so that we can get back to entertaining and showing it off.

Rated 4 out of 5 by BBie from 4 1/2 Stars Rating The first cooktop I received out of the box had to be returned because it was warped and wouldn't sit flat on my new perfectly flat quartz countertop. The second one sat perfectly. I bought it because only KitchenAid and Whirlpool had controls on the right-hand side. Manufacturers who put the controls at the centre have rocks in their heads because the front of the cooktop has a hurdle to get over when setting pots on or using it as a safe surface when taking trays or anything out of the wall oven. It is a useful surface that is necessary for me to access and use without bumping into front controls. I feel SO strongly about this because on the right hand side they are out of the way. Most people are right handed. One issue that took a bit of getting used to and was not thought out was that the knobs don't operate the same from knob to knob. I thought there was something wrong with the 2-burner part of the front knob because the high heat is at 7 o'clock position. All knobs should be the same, pick one and make them all the same. If you have to go to the 1 o'clock position for high heat on the same knob but for the single burner, it is awkward. Personally, I would like high heat section on all knobs to be 11 o'clock for dual burners and 1 o'clock for single burners on the same knob. Burners with a single element should have high heat at the 1 o'clock position. Other than issues mentioned it is a very good cooktop.
